Beautiful Blues (Clothing That Make The Photo)

family portraits - beach - blue clothing - oahu - hawaii - what to wear

One of the most frequent questions we get asked from our clients is  "what should we wear?" In addition, it should be no surprise that our two blog post (here and here) about clothing suggestions just so happen to be our most popular blog reads.

So we thought it would be a wonderful idea to start a "Clothing That Make the Photo" blog series in which we frequently post about outfit choices our client's have recently made that we think work really well in photographs.

To start off this series we decided to highlight a color that we have noticed a lot of client's wearing lately - BLUE.

Blue is a great color for photographs because it works with a lot of people's skin tones. It compliments many of Hawaii's landscapes rather it be lush, green trees or the sparkling ocean. We really think it looks great when different family members wear different shades of blue or mix it up with a complimentary pattern. Take a look at some photographs from our clients that have decided to use beautiful blues for their clothing. Hopefully you will get inspired!

Pu'u Ualaka'a State Park

Lush Green - Puu Ualakaa State Park - Military Family - Portraits

When the L Family emailed us to schedule an appointment they had one request - they wanted lush greenery. Being repeat clients, the L Family had already done beach photos and wanted a new kind of landscape.

Jerry suggested Pu'u Ualaka'a State Park,
a beautiful park in Honolulu that overlooks the city and ocean.

This hilltop vista is the perfect backdrop for those who want a park like setting!

According to the L Family -
"We have lived in Hawaii for almost five years and we had never been to Pu'u Ualakaa State Park before. We have many pictures on the beach, so it was great to have a beautiful and unique location while still encompassing Hawaii in our photos"

We couldn't agree more! The location turned out to be a beautiful back drop for this good looking family. Jerry and Justin were able to catch some priceless moments from their adorable children. Talk about some sibling love!!

The lighting through the trees ended up being perfect that day. Add that to the beautiful lush and green scenery and you have a winning combination for photographs.

Here at Hawaiianpix we were blushing with all the wonderful words the
L Family said about their session  -
"We are very happy with how the photos turned out! We had a great time working with Jerry and Justin. Everything went smoothly and Jerry did a great job with the kids. I am very happy to have had these photos taken before my husband deploys This was our second time with Hawaiianpix and we will definitely use them again."

We are honored to capture some great photographs of the L Family before the deployment.  We would like to thank them for their service and the best of luck with their upcoming deployment. We look forward to working with them again!

Here are some more families' photos taken at this location too!

Lillian and Randy - Trash the Dress

Believe it or not, but wedding season is right around the corner and one the newest trends in "wedding" themed photography is Trash the Dress sessions.

Trash the Dress sessions are scheduled after the wedding and offer a great way for the bride and groom to have some fun with their wedding attire.

Recently, we had a great session with Lillian and Randy at Lanikuhonua Beach at Ko'olina. We loved how the couple were not afraid to get wet and sandy!

How to Put the Romance in Your Photos

Couples-Love-North Shore-Hawaii

Valentine's Day and Wedding Season is right around the corner and love is in the air!

It appears that the "love bug" must be going around, because lately we have been busy scheduling portrait sessions for couples.  In honor of Valentine's Day, Pre-bridals and Trash the Dress sessions.

We thought we would share some tips on how to spice up the mood and make your session in Hawaii a memorable and romantic affair.

During a trip to Hawaii to celebrate their five year anniversary, Josh wanted to surprise his wife, Princess, with a surprise photo shoot at the same location they were married.

According to Josh, "The five year anniversary is considered the "paper" anniversary, so I thought a photo shoot and prints at the same beach we were married would be a cool present."

We had no problem scheduling them for a romantic sunset session at Lanikuhonua Beach at Ko'olina. Princess is a lucky lady to have such a thoughtful husband!

They always say "A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words" and including props can contribute to the story! We often find that props add some playfulness to photos. Props can also tell a lot about the couple's personality. Just be careful, you don't want the props to take away from you as the main focus!

Nothing is more romantic than planning a surprise proposal during your photo shoot. Scott booked a photo session with his girlfriend, Brooke, at Ala Moana Beach Park. It was important to Scott to propose to Brooke and get the whole moment on film.

You can just see the surprise turned into excitement when she said YES!

This one is our favorite! We love when couples aren't afraid to get a little wet and sandy. You can really see the passion in photos when couple's just relax and let loose. Rather it be in your wedding dress or in your favorite outfit, we encourage you to have some fun and get a little dirty! (Get your mind out of the gutter)
